Hello Westmount Rugby Alumni and Friends!
We need your help!
Our rugby club, the oldest in North America, founded in 1876, is growing and doing well: the Men's Team won the 2nd division before the pandemic, and is moving up into the 1st division for the first time in recent memory; the Women's team won the Development Division and are moving into the 2nd division.
This year reveals a particularly important challenge, we have the chance to have a good group of players ready to face the season. Nevertheless, an important financial difficulty has appeared, after a relatively quiet and uneventful number of years in our relations with the City of Westmount, they've finally asked us to pay piper for field use, and it's not cheap. The City of Westmount asked that we pay for field access as other clubs and schools are asked to do. The cost is ... $8,000/year.
A new $8,000 bill is a huge, huge ask for our club. We need your support to make sure we aren't homeless. Our target is to grow yearly support from old boys, old girls and friends, so we can cover this field cost (and more). Whatever you can give will help immeasurably.
In addition to fields, we have other growing costs, including Equipment (pads, balls and more), and Coaching & Athletic therapists. We have 3 teams:
Men's 1st XV, in Quebec's 1st division
Women's XV, in Quebec's 2nd division
Men's Reserves (1st division reserves)
These three teams take coaching dedication, and on-and-off field management, much easier to get in quality if we can pay a stipend equivalent to what other clubs pay.
All that to say, the club hasn't been in better shape in 20 years or more, but we've also never needed your support as much as we do now. You can contribute online here, or email: contact@westmountrugby.com for info on how to pay by check or other means.
