Hello Ravens,

Welcome to the 2012 season. I trust you all enjoyed the off season? Believe it or not pre season training starts next week! I hope you are all ready to put in the effort required to win the club another championship cup? We are in a great position this year to get back to back championships but like anything in life, you don’t achieve your goals without putting in the required effort. So, the effort starts next Tuesday, January 10th, 7pm at the Westmount High School gym. Henry and Mike will be there to ‘ease’ you into the new season.
To enter the gym go to the middle door at the rear of the building. Training starts at 7pm sharp so make sure you are there by 6.45pm to allow time to change. You will need normal gym wear, running shoes and a mouth guard.

The school is located at 4350 St.Catherine Street, West. Westmount. H3Z 1R1. Google maps link http://maps.google.ca/maps/place?q=Westmount+High+School,+Westmount,+QC&hl=en&cid=5869485863924681351

Nearest Metro stations are Atwater or Lionel-Groulx.

At this time I would also remind you all to be on the look out for new players (including juniors, boys & girls) and to do your best to bring one new player to the club this season. We have lost a few players from last year and we are aiming to enter a second team in the D Division so we need as many players as we can get! Please make sure to get their email addresses to me so they can be added to the Google Group.

Also, please mark on your calendars that our club AGM will be held on February 22nd at 7pm at the Greene Centre. An official notice with all the meeting details will be sent in the very near future. All members are encouraged to attend.

It was a glorious day of rugby that saw the Ravens playing on
potentially the best and worst field in Quebec. We squared off our
first game against the St. Jean Barracudas. The first half has us
literally running uphill because the angled pitch, but gaining lots of
ground in any case. Because the field was so poorly marked, Seb
actually pushed into the try zone but kept pushing on through because
the try line was no where to be found and apparently wasn’t under the
pôsts on this pitch! It was a good effort though. In the end, we came
out on top with a shut out victory, 7-0.

The next game was against the Ottawa Indians who are currently in the
FRQ “Superleague” . This contest had us on a beautiful fast field
against a big strong Indians side. Although their team was bigger than
us, we used it to our advantage using the backs to get two tries on the
board with Julien using his boot to mark two more points. The final
score at the whistle was 12 – 0 for the Ravens.

In the Cup final, we were up outnumbered by the Ottawa Irish 13
players to 15 players at the final whistle because of injury and
numbers missing. Still, the Ravens put up a good fight by scoring two
tries and kept their heads up. Well done boys!

Trainings this week will be as follow/Les entraînements cette semaine:

Tuesday-Thursday/Mardi – Jeudi 6pm @ McGill Reservoir

Remember to dress warm. It’s still cold/wet out there.

Petit rappel: habillez vous chaudement. Il fait encore froid.

TRAINING REMINDER
This Saturday, April 2nd, will be our last training at the Stinger Dome. We have gone the extra expense and rented half the field so we can run full drills and we need/expect ALL of you to be there. Practice times are from 3:00 to 5:00pm. That means be ready to practice AT 3pm, not show up at AT 3pm. The only excuse for not showing up is death (your own). Please, show up to training on Saturday, even if you are injured. The coaching staff needs to see you there to work out which positions we have for this season.

Gentleman, our first match is fast approaching.

The revised schedule is as follows/Voici l’horaire d’entraînement mis à jour

Date Start/Debut End/Fin
Sat. March 19th/Samedi le 19 Mars 18:00 20:00
Sat. March 26th/Samedi le 26 Mars 14:00 16:00
Sat. April 2nd/Samedi le 2 Avril 15:00 17:00

Don’t forget to bring $5 to cover the rental of the dome, and there will be contact so dress appropriately, bring your mouth guard, and appropriate footwear (no metal cleats). Long sleeves/jogging pants recommended.

We have organised a rugby to tour to Portland!  This usually means a lot of drink and a little bit of rugby :P   The tour to Portland will be held in May.  For all current Westmount Ravens players please send your availability to the coaches,  it will be one of few preseason friendly’s that we will play, so please make the effort to come along to this tour.

We have Andy Mitchell already confirmed on this tour and he expected to be the leading try scorer!

The match is on Saturday, May 7th at 1pm in Portland, Maine. More details to follow for weekend accommodation.
