WRC has completed another season of its mini rugby program, to great praise from the parents and the city of Westmount. “Our program welcomed an average of 25 kids every Sunday afternoon for 6 weeks and practices consisted in basic rugby skills like passing, kicking and team play. We’ve introduced with great success the basics of tackling and laws of the game” says Jean-Sebastien Paul, the man behind the program. “Every session ended with a full game of touch rugby. We’re looking forward to next season where we will introduce competitive games with other clubs.” A lot of the senior players were involved and had a blast running around with the kids.

Many parents were impressed with the program, and one of them mused: “Congratulations on letting kids have fun while doing constructive work with them, not as simple as it sounds”, a sentiment echoed throughout the community. The Westmount Ravens are proud to be giving back and plan to do it all over again next year. Stay tuned for details!

WRC a terminé une autre saison de son programme de rugby mini, avec beaucoup d’éloges des parents et la ville de Westmount. «Notre programme a accueilli une moyenne de 25 enfants tous les dimanches après-midi pendant 6 semaines et les pratiques ont consisté à apprendre les compétences de base du rugby tels que passer le ballon, botter le ballon et le jeu d’équipe. Nous avons introduit avec succès les rudiments du placage et les lois du jeu», déclare Jean-Sébastien Paul, l’homme derrière le programme. «Chaque séance s’est terminée par un match de touch rugby. Nous avons hâte à la saison prochaine, où nous allons introduire des jeux compétitifs avec d’autres clubs.” Un grand nombre de joueurs seniors ont participé et se sont très amusés à courir avec les enfants.

Beaucoup de parents ont été impressionnés par le programme, et l’un d’eux avait ceci à dire: «Félicitations pour laisser les enfants s’amuser tout en accomplissant un travail constructif avec eux, ce n’est pas aussi simple que cela semble!», un sentiment partagé dans la communauté. Les Ravens de Westmount sont fiers de redonner à la communauté et planifient de le faire une fois de plus l’année prochaine. Restez à l’écoute pour plus de détails!

WRC completed the first half of the 2011 season by posting another victory against another tough opponent, improving to a 4-1 record. The game was played on a beautiful sunny day in an excellent field. Trois Rivieres scored a try early in the game, and maintained that advantage through most of the game. While WRC pushed the pace of the game and kept most of it in the TR half, it was Julien Marrel’s boot which put points in the board, converting on two penalties. The turning point of the game cam with 2min left to play, with WRC gaining possession of the ball at the TR 22 line and Julien Marrel scoring again, this time the winning try. Needless to say, Man of the Match was awarded to Julien “Golden Boot” Marrel for a fantastic game. WRC would like to thank Trois Rivieres and the referee.

WRC terminé la première moitié de la saison 2011 en affichant une autre victoire contre un autre adversaire coriace, améliorant d’une fiche de 4-1. Le match a été joué dans une belle journée ensoleillée sur un excellent champ. Trois-Rivières a marqué un essai en début de partie, et a maintenu l’avantage la plupart du match. Bien que WRC a poussé le rythme du jeu et gardé la plupart de celui-ci dans la moitié de TR, ce fut la botte de Julien Marrel qui a marqué des points, avec 2 pénalités. Le point tournant du match est arrivé avec 2min à jouer, avec WRC prenant possession de la balle au 22m de TR et Julien Marrel marquant encore, cette fois l’essai gagnant. Il va sans dire que l’Homme du Match a été décerné à Julien “Botte D’Or” Marrel pour un match phénoménal. WRC tiens à remercier Trois-Rivières et l’arbitre.

The Westmount Ravens picked up another victory, improving their record to 3-1 for the 2011 season. It was a clean, proper rugby game, against a skilled opposition. The game was hard fought by both sides on windy conditions. First blood was drawn by Julien Marrel, with his amazing boot. Ugo Landry-Tolszczuk scored the first try of the game, and Ricky Bray and Kevin Marks got the other tries.
The man of the match was awarded to Charles Marsh, acting caption, for excellent leadership on and off the field. WRC would like to thank NDG and the referee.

Les Ravens de Westmount ont ramassé une autre victoire, améliorant leur fiche à 3-1 pour la saison 2011. Ce fut un bon match de rugby, face à une opposition qualifiée. Le jeu a été âprement disputée par les deux parties sur les conditions venteuses. Les premiers points ont été marques par Julien Marrel. Ugo Landry-Tolszczuk a marqué le premier essai du jeu, et Ricky Bray et Kevin Marks a obtenu les autres.
L’homme du match a été décerné à Charles Marsh, capitaine , pour son excellent leadership sur et hors du terrain. WRC tiens à remercier NDG et l’arbitre.

The Westmount Ravens posted its second home victory, improving to a 2-1 record for the 2011 season. The game was played against another tough opponent, who played a strong game. Matt “Anakin” Peris made a spectacular return to rugby after a two year absence, scoring a try in the early minutes of the game. Julien Marrel made the conversion and scored on penalties, making his boot more and more trustworthy. The other try of the game was scored by Jamie Fortunaso. WRC won this bittersweet game, but lost its fearless Captain, Tom Edmeades, indefinitely. Our thoughts are with our Captain and we wish him a speedy recovery. The Man of the Match was awarded to Matt “Anakin” Peris for a strong performance. WRC would like to thank the referee and the St-Jean Barracudas.

WRC will play next week against the NDG Exiles.

Les Ravens de Westmount ont affiché leur deuxième victoire à domicile, améliorant sa fiche de 2-1 pour la saison 2011. Le match a été joué contre un adversaire coriace, qui a joué un fort match. Matt “Anakin” Peris a fait un retour spectaculaire au rugby après une absence de deux ans, marquant un essai dans les premières minutes du match. Julien Marrel a marqué sur les conversions, rendant sa botte de plus en plus digne de confiance. L’autre essai du match a été marqué par Jamie Fortunaso. WRC a remporté ce match, mais il a perdu son capitaine , Tom Edmeades, indéfiniment. Nos pensées sont avec notre capitaine et nous lui souhaitons un prompt rétablissement. L’homme du Match a été décerné à Matt “Anakin” Peris pour sa forte performance.  WRC aimerait remercier le référée et les Barracudas de St-Jean.

WRC jouera la semaine prochaine contre les Exiles de NDG.

The game will be played at the Raven’s homefield, @ Westmount Park. Kick off will be at 4.30 pm, and the weather looks beautiful and sunny.
