Celebrate the birth of our nation by supporting the oldest rugby club in the country.  We play our home opener against Trois-Rivières on the Canada Day long weekend in Westmount Park.  Momentum is clearly behind us with two victories and the chance to solidify our position near the top of the table.

As this is opening weekend, the day won’t end with the final whistle.  After game drinks will be held at the Forum, with festivities continuing through the night.

Go Westmount!

This is an important attacking drill about running lines and hitting the space in between defenders.  Check out this great drill

This week we have Tuesday training and Thursday training but this week will be a little bit different as we are playing the Wanderers at their home ground on Wednesday night.  It has been a few seasons in which the Ravens have played the Wanderers and usually these games are very firey which all the players involved love.  So keep your eyes open for the location of the game and the Ravens will bring home a third straight victory!!!

Dear Parents,

Westmount Rugby Club, the oldest active club in North America, is
pleased to announce a new program for Junior Rugby commencing in 2011.
Our certified coaches will be using the Fédération De Rugby Du Québec
approved Progressive Rugby program. Progressive Rugby was developed by
ex-Westmount Player and IRB Referee Roy Harvey and is designed to
teach kids basic rugby drills from beginner to advanced. We aim to
offer coaching and games for children aged 8-18 years beginning in
2011.

Roy Harvey says, “Progressive Rugby is an introduction to rugby in
which players develop in a safe, progressive and enjoyable
environment. Players who take part in this program are required to
complete each level in the order presented. Before moving on to the
next level players must have their coach ‘sign off’ on the level
completed. Gradually, players should enjoy the experience of improving
their skill and playing abilities in an environment that is safe and
well suited to their abilities and knowledge of the game. There is no
time limit on this progress made. Players should feel confident of
their progress before advancing, and should not be in any rush to play
beyond their playing abilities and experience. On the other hand,
there is no restriction on the rapidity by which players may advance.
Progress should be determined by coaches involved.”

Progressive Rugby will:
1- Gradually introduce the rules and techniques of Rugby Union to
young players
2- Track their development through the use of ‘Skills Passports’
allowing players to move to the next level.
3- Create a competitive space for talented young athletes to play real
rugby games against other junior teams at provincial and National
levels.

Another victory for Westmount! Ravens win a hardfought game in torrential rain conditions north of the Island. Straight Arm awarded to JC for a gutsy performance. Go Westmount!

The Westmount Ravens is the  oldest rugby club in North America and back in the day Westmount had a club house right next to Westmount high.  Celebrating 132 years of rugby we are looking to rebuild the club back to the glory days and we need funds to help build a club house so we can store our memorabilia and where we can hang out after matches and training.

We ask kindly if you could donate $1 to help build a club house so we have place a donation button on the side menu.

Thank you for contributing and keeping rugby alive in North America and Montreal!
