Simple drill this week, just catch and pass

The first game of the Westmount Raven’s season is only 5 days away and training is compulsory for selection for the first game of the season.  This will be the last week that training will be at the reservoir which is on the corner of Dr Penfield and Pins.

Congratulations to Stu for a great game on the weekend, there were a number of great runs, half the length of the field try and a reverse super man into the fence.  Though the Ravens went down a number of rookies got a full game under their belt, including Frankie with six hit ups!

Don’t forget that mini rugby is starting in starting in May.

Tomorrow we have a combined training session at the reservoir with TMR. Be at the training field tomorrow at 6pm we will warm up tomorrow for 30mins and then it will be contact training for another hour so please bring your boots and mouth guards.

Congratulations to everyone that turned on Saturday for the intra club match.  Westmount new Jersey won the game and Julian was man of the match.  Well done Julian!

Special thanks go to TMR for the combined training session.

I have to say I am loving the rugby WA drills.  This drill goes through some of the skills we practice on Thursday.

For those who are interested in brushing up in there defensive skills.  You should check out a greatt article written by the IRB.  It out lines 12 steps to solid defending.

To read the article head to IRB now!

I was pointed out by friends that there was a fantastic article in the Suburban.  Which is Quebec’s biggest English paper.  The article features an interview with club coach and Westmount old boy Henry Rozenblat.

To check out the article head to the Suburban and read about rugby in Montreal.  One thing we would like to know is which team is in that photo as it is definitely not the Westmount Ravens

Intra club match

Tomorrow at the reservoir field will be the Westmount Ravens first big test against ourselves.  We will be playing an intra club match, teams will be split up according to the numbers we have on the day.

The club president Tony will be refereeing the match under the official IRB rules.  If you are not sure of the rules then check out the Westmount Google group to brush up on the rules.

The game is to start at 2pm so aim to be at the field at 1 pm.  After the game we will be heading to the next door and le bull for the official opening of Le Bull and to watch the Canadiens play against suck (JS quote).

Training today at the reservoir, be there before 12 so we can be ready for 12.

Please support our friends at Centre Greene.  They are having a book sale this weekend so show your support as this book sale will fund the children summer camp!

Due to the rain , we are to move our normally scheduled practice to the Greene Centre on Greene ave, below Dorchester Blvd. at 6:30 p.m. Instead of a practice we’ll have a team meeting to view highlites of top caliber games, discuss laws, strategies and tactics in order to give a basic overview of our game.  Please encourage everybody to attend.  Please bring along any DVDs of top caliber games you may have .

At this stage Saturday’s training session is on at our usual field.

PS: Bring the popcorn :)

Mini-Rugby Montreal is a very important part of the growth of the team, it ensures our presence in the community and spreads the Gospel of Rugby to young kids who are being forced-fed hockey & soccer at school :)

JS and Tom will be leading the activities, that are taking place from May 2nd to June 20th. On a sunday afternoon and have fun with the kids, showing them how to play rugby through the drills Tom & JS will have set up.

Super cool and super easy!

The Centre Greene is having a book sale this weekend and needs some strong youg lads to help carry the boxes up from their basement. We have agreed to be there at 6pm tomorrow night. So if you are free tomorrow come support your club’s community centre and do some fitness at the same time.

It may improve everyone’s redding and righting skills :)

We have moved to outdoor training  sessions on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 6pm til dusk! We’ll be at the Reservoir field on the corner of Pins and Dr Penfield. If it rains this week and there is a good chance of rain this week, keep an eye out for a late email for a possible change in venue.

Lastly, Gabe is going to be collecting registration forms and fees. If you are not registered you can not play.  For new players who have not registered please provide a passport size photo.  Remy, did one better and provided about 10 head shots in different sizes.  Tommy now has this collection on his bedroom wall :P

Remember, there is a warm up game this week against Parc O.
